If your pet needs surgery—the Surgery Division of the Veterinary Referral Center is an excellent choice. Our surgeons have extensive experience performing all types of surgery. We are well qualified to address your pet’s surgical needs with excellent surgical care, vigilant anesthetic monitoring and comprehensive pain prevention and management. We are committed to improving the quality of life for our patients and strengthening the human-animal bond.
When you and your pet come for your first visit with the Surgery Division you will receive:
- One-on-one time with the surgeon who will complete a thorough evaluation of your pet.
- A tour of the hospital so you can see our state-of-the-art equipment and experience the comfortable, quiet setting where your pet will stay.
If your pet has surgery, you will receive a specific time to call so you can speak directly with the surgeon. Also, we encourage you to call back later in the evening to talk to our overnight staff for a detailed update on your pet.
Our patients’ safety and comfort are our top priorities in the Surgery Division. All patients are assigned to a team of highly trained licensed veterinary technicians before, during and after their procedure. Your pet will receive constant monitoring while under anesthesia. After surgery, our doctors and technicians keep the patients as quiet, clean, comfortable and pain free as possible. We provide outstanding, personalized care to each patient that ensures their specific needs are met.
From the time you drop off your pet until you pick them up after surgery:
- They will remain in the same facility and be taken care of by the same doctors and staff you meet at your first appointment.
- They will receive 24-hour care so you can call whenever you want to check on your pet.
- Only critical patients are transferred to the Emergency Clinic for close doctor supervision.
When you pick up your pet we will go over all medications and discharge instructions with you and send you home with written instructions. You are always welcome to call back and talk to one of our licensed veterinary technicians if you have concerns or questions. All suture removal appointments and routine rechecks are scheduled at the time of your pet’s discharge and are included in the initial surgical fee.
Unlike other large referral hospitals, your pet will not be transferred to another department for overnight care.* All of our patients wake up comfortably and quietly in the same cage or run where you drop them off. This allows our dedicated staff to focus solely on our patients’ recovery.
*Patients that have to stay overnight on a Saturday or Sunday may occasionally be transferred to the Emergency Clinic due to staffing. You will be notified in advanced if this applies to your pet.
